Throwback Thursday: Davido’s “Omo Baba Olowo” Vs Wizkid’s “Superstar”, Which Was The Better Debut Album?

Few years ago, Two of Nigeria’s biggest superstars gave us some of the greatest ever albums in Nigeria’s music history.

Wizkid’s Superstar and Davido’s OBO The Genesis were released in their early years when they were just starting out as upcoming artistes.

It’s a sharp contrast to what we have now when an artiste will take up to 2 to 3 years before releasing an album.

Then after the first single which normally becomes a hit, the artiste drops his album next. It was this strategy Wizkid, Davido, Tiwa Savage, Olamide and Ice Prince all employed.

Superstar by Wizkid came first in 2011 and the content of the album followed the direction of the album’s title.

Pre released singles from Holla At Your Boy, Tease Me and Don’t Dull made the album and Wizkid further brought his genius effect on songs like Pakurumo, Wad Up, Call My Name and Scatter the Floor. The album launch was sold out and everyone till date rate the album highly.

A year later in 2012, Davido released his debut album. After a period of breakthrough that saw him establish his name on the industry’s map with singles like Dami Duro and Ekuro, Davido dropped his album and it oozed greatness and a new found fame for the young lad who was just 18 at that time.

All of you, Feel Alright with Ice Prince, Sade, Mary Jane and For You with 2face were star tracks that made us all groove to the album.
