Google is about to shut down over 500,000 accounts (All Google Plus Accounts) after it discovered that data of users were exposed.
This simply means that Google Plus will be shut down anytime soon, making it the latest in all the projects Google has shut down or abandoned totally. According to Google, a software glitch in the social site gave outside developers potential access to private Google+ profile data between a major redesign in 2015 and March 2018, when internal investigators discovered and fixed the issue.
The affected data was limited to static, optional Google+ Profile fields including name, email address, occupation, gender, and age.
However, Google decided not to notify users about this breach of data. This is really disappointing.
I do hope our Google Accounts, in general, are safe. In the meantime let’s take a few minutes of silence to pay respects to the souls of the departed
